Images from Cemetery visit

  1. Young girl lighting candles at gravesite:
This image is very beautiful and it intrigued me from the very first time I had seen it. I love that only half of the girls face is painted and how the candlelight casts a shadow against her face. Then there is who I assume is the mother in the background. How her face has been cut out of the picture. She feels like this cliché guardian who watches over her daughter as she does everything for the celebration on her own for the first time. This image feels to me like a capturing of a rite of passage in Mexican culture. This story line I have made up in my head has to be my most favorite part about this image. I do however also like that the background is a blur and the clearest part of the image is the little girl. She reminds me of me when I was little, how my mother always watched over me as I had done all of the cooking, cleaning, and management within my household. I was taught young how to be independent and I love my mother for teaching me how.
